Every pro on Like Magic runs their own business, is responsible for their own work and carries their own insurance. Before they get a single job, we check them.

Vetted pros

We check each pro's ID, criminal record, references and insurance, and their trade registration where the law requires one.

Pay only in the app

Pay securely in the app. Never pay a pro in cash or by bank transfer. That way every payment is on record.

No work starts without your OK. For quoted work, nothing happens until you accept the quote in the app.

Some problems need a look first. You pay a call-out fee, and the pro quotes. Go ahead with the quote and the call-out fee is credited to the job.

Up to 3 quotes for bigger jobs

For bigger work, up to 3 vetted pros quote. Compare them side by side and choose. Nothing is booked until you accept.

Questions, answered

Who does the work?

Independent service providers: plumbers and other trades who run their own businesses. Each one is responsible for their own work and must carry their own insurance. Like Magic is the marketplace that connects you: we vet every provider before they can take jobs, and we handle booking, payment, tracking and support.

Which services can I book today?

Plumbing and geyser jobs are bookable now. Electrical, air-con, handyman and the other trades are opening soon. You can already send a request for those jobs on the services page.

Do you work in my area?

We are now in Durban and surrounds, and we will open more areas one by one. If your address is outside the area, we will let you know.

How does an instant price work?

For common jobs you see a fixed price before you book. That is the price for the job as you described it. If the pro finds something different or extra when they arrive, they must quote for it in the app first, and nothing extra happens unless you approve it.

What is a call-out fee, and do I get it back?

Some jobs need a pro to look before they can price the fix, like a hidden leak or a geyser that won't heat. You pay a call-out fee for the visit. The pro then quotes. If you go ahead with the quote, the call-out fee is credited to the job.

How do quotes work for bigger jobs?

Describe the job once. Up to 3 vetted pros send you a quote in the app. Compare them, ask questions and choose the one you want. You don't have to accept any of them.

How do I pay?

Securely in the app. Please never pay a pro in cash or by bank transfer, even if they ask. Paying in the app keeps a record of the job and lets us help you if something goes wrong.

How do you check the pros?

We check each pro's ID, run a criminal record check with their consent, check their trade registration where the law requires one, make sure they carry their own insurance, and follow up references. Read more on our safety page.

What if I'm not happy with the work?

Tell us in the app as soon as you can, with photos if possible. Your pro is responsible for their own work and fixes their own workmanship if something isn't right. We help you raise it, follow it up with the pro, and keep the job report and photos as a record. This comes on top of your rights under the Consumer Protection Act. Can I cancel a booking?

Yes, in the app. Whether a fee applies depends on when you cancel and whether your pro is already on the way. The Cancellations & refunds policy has the details.

Are you a skilled pro?

Get jobs in Durban and surrounds, set your own hours and get paid through the app. We are vetting plumbers now, and pros in other trades ahead of launch.
